About the GreenJacket® MaterialGreenJacket® 1 ™ material is a three layer film with an abc structure. The abc structure permits the material to utilize three different resins to form a single web. The initial film extrusion is the same as for any extruded blown film. The .95 high density film bubble is collapsed after blown, then before it is cooled the collapsed tube is stretched at a 4 to 1 ratio which super orientates the film in the longitudinal (machine direction). This stretching or orientation process is what imparts the superior strength of the GreenJacket 1 ™ material. The roll of super-orientated material is then placed on a machine that is called a spiral cutter. The film, which is still in the tube form, is opened and placed on a mandrel. The roll of film from the extruder/ stretcher rotates, as it is unwound. As the roll rotates a stationary knife cuts the film at a 45-degree angle from the machine direction and rewound. The stretch/orientation remains in the machine direction until the film is cut at the 45-degree angle. The stretch/orientation after the film is cut is now on an angle to the "new" machine direction. Two of these spiral cut rolls are then combined with the angular orientation in the opposite directions. These two roll film webs are laminated together using a .94 medium density laminate layer and rewound on a finished three-layer film. GreenJacket® 1™ material can then be classified as a uniaxially oriented cross- laminated high-density polyethelene.
